Kitchen Cabinet Painting That Doesn't Chip Off in a Year
Why homeowners choose Webster's Quality Painting
Webster's Quality Painting has enameled kitchen cabinets across the Twin Cities for 26 years, and a cabinet finish that lasts comes from the process underneath it, not the brand of paint. Here's what most cabinet quotes skip: the prep. We clean off grease, degloss the slick factory finish, prime with a high-adhesion primer, and sand between coats so the enamel bonds instead of peeling at the door edges within a year. We're fully insured. Call (612)-987-1566 for a free estimate.
Cabinet painting cost depends on the number of doors and drawer fronts, the condition of the existing finish, whether you're going from a dark stain to a light color, and the sheen you choose. A small vanity is a different job than a full upper-and-lower kitchen with a crowded door count. We don't post a flat per-door price, because a kitchen that's already sound prices very differently from one where the boxes are greasy, glossy, and never deglossed. Every job is different. Contact Webster's Quality Painting for an accurate estimate.

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets Professionally: Our Step-by-Step Process

The Prep Is the Whole Ballgame

Spray vs. Brush Cabinet Painting: What Actually Gives the Best Finish

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Across the Twin Cities
We've enameled cabinets in kitchens all over the south and west metro, and the cabinet stock changes noticeably from suburb to suburb, which changes the prep. Here's what we tend to see, town by town.
- Bloomington: A lot of the housing here is 1960s and 70s split-levels and ramblers with the original oak or maple boxes, flat-panel or shaker doors, still solid but yellowed and slick from decades of factory sealer. That existing sealer is exactly the surface that rejects standard primer, so the degloss step earns its keep on these kitchens.
- Edina: Older Edina kitchens skew custom, with heavier stained cabinetry and detailed door profiles that trap grease in the corners. Deep cleaning and careful between-coat sanding in the profile edges is what keeps a light enamel color from looking muddy in the recesses.
- Eden Prairie: Newer 1990s and 2000s builds out here often run thermofoil or MDF-fronted cabinets. Those need a bonding primer chosen specifically for that substrate, because a wood primer won't grip a foil or MDF face, and that mismatch is a common reason a suburban cabinet repaint peels.
- Woodbury: Heavy on newer construction with builder-grade maple and painted-white boxes already in place. Repainting an already-painted cabinet is its own job: we're scuffing and recoating a cured finish rather than breaking through factory sealer, and matching the existing white so the touched and untouched sides read as one color takes a real color match.
- Minnetonka: A mix of older lake-area homes and 80s two-stories, often with dated honey-oak that homeowners want taken to a modern white or greige. Going from a dark, open-grain stain to a light color is the most involved cabinet job we do, because the grain wants to telegraph through, so it gets a grain-filling pass and an extra coat.
Color selection is half the decision on any of these, especially the dark-to-light jobs. If you want help landing the color and sheen before we start, that's where our interior design service comes in, and it pairs naturally with the enamel work. Wherever you are in the metro, call (612)-987-1566 and we'll walk your kitchen.
